Doug Brookins
DOUG BROOKINS, FAIRFIELD HIGH, 1971
Doug led the Falcons to two Sectional basketball championships (1969 & 1971) and lost the ’70 championship game by a single point, finishing 20-3. He led the team in rebounds as a soph and was leading scorer and MVP his junior and senior seasons. Brookins scored 1,293 points in his career and also played one year of track and baseball. At Creighton University, he also topped the 1,000-point mark with 1,115 points (10th all-time). Second in nation in free throw percentage (88.2) in 1975. He started mid-soph year, winning the most improved award. Doug played in four NCAA tournament games. Creighton was 23-7 in 1974 and 20-7 in 1975, when he was named MVP. Doug was drafted by the Washington Bullets of the NBA in the 9th round and also received numerous offers to play in Europe.
