George Knobel
GEORGE KNOBEL, Nappanee High School, 1935
George led Nappanee to the Bulldogs’ second straight sectional championship in 1935, beating Goshen, 35- 19 in the title game. He was amed to all-NIHSC, all-Sectional and all-State teams in 1935. Knobel led Nappanee to the Sweet Sixteen (’35), where the Bulldogs lost a second-round game to eventual champion Anderson. George was the 1935 Elkhart County scoring champion with 210 points. He played freshman basketball in his first of two years at Notre Dame, then played two years for Tony Hinkle at Butler. George later became an avid golfer.
