Keith W. Dougherty, Nappanee & Elkhart High Schools (Coach)
Coach Dougherty began his coaching career in 1949 as an assistant basketball coach at Lewisville High School and later became a highly successful head basketball coach at: Hymera High School, 1950-59; Nappanee High School, 1959-68; and Elkhart High School, 1968-72. Keith served as Elkhart Memorial High School athletic director 1972-76. He concluded his education career as an administrator in the Elkhart Community Schools, 1976-1991. His tenure at Elkhart High School was marked by four sectional championships, one regional, one semi-state and State runner-up in 1971. The 1971 Final Four team beat New Castle and Kent Benson in the afternoon game. Coach Dougherty’s head coaching record was 287 wins and 191 losses. He was highly respected by his fellow coaches and developed a reputation as a terrific coach of defense.
